How to Request Ownership of a Google Business Profile (formerly Google My Business profile)

Businesses change hands. New managers are brought onboard. Employees take on different roles. Business Profiles can change hands for a number of different reasons. Thankfully, Google has made it relatively easy to access claimed profiles and request ownership of a profile from the current profile owner.   To request ownership of a Google Business Profile (formerly Google My Business profile), begin by visiting the profile and clicking “Claim this Business” or “Own this business.” (If you can’t find that link on the Business Profile, it means you are already the owner.)    Once you have clicked “Claim this business,” you will see a message that says someone else has already verified the profile. Click “Request access” and fill out the provided form to request ownership of the profile from the existing profile owner. That owner will receive an email asking him or her to contact you to complete the ownership transition.    Existing business owners have three to seven days to respond after receiving a request to claim ownership of a listing. If your request is approved, you will be able to manage the business listing from your Business Profile Manager dashboard (formerly Google My Business account).   If your request is denied or you have not heard back within seven days, you will be notified by email and you can appeal the denial to Google directly.    If you have reached this point and you still have not had success changing the ownership of a Google Business Profile, a company like SOCi can provide support and guidance on how to successfully navigate the process.
