A Look Into ChatGPT and How it Works

A Look Into ChatGPT and How it Works

As a multi-location marketer, you may have heard about ChatGPT in the news recently. OpenAI released ChatGPT in November 2022, and it's text-based artificial intelligence (AI) that can answer questions and take instructions from users in a human-like manner.    ChatGPT is a chatbot that has garnered much attention because of its seemingly remarkable ability to answer almost any question or request while providing high-quality answers. Now that you have a basic understanding of ChatGPT, let's learn how to gain access to ChatGPT and leverage it in your marketing efforts.

How to Create a ChatGPT Account

To use ChatGPT, marketers must have an OpenAI account. If you don't already have an account, you can create one for free, as seen in the image below.

You'll be asked to add your email address, full name, and phone number when creating an account. Or you can log in via your Google or Microsoft account. There is a free version of ChatGPT, and a paid version called ChatGPT Plus, which is twenty dollars a month.    According to OpenAI, ChatGPT Plus allows subscribers to gain the following:
  • General access to ChatGPT, even during peak times
  • Faster response times
  • Priority access to new features and improvements
If you need help figuring out how the text-generating AI works, a free version of ChatGPT will suffice. Once you begin using it, you can determine if ChatGPT Plus is right for you.

Ways Marketers Can Leverage ChatGPT

There are various ways multi-location marketers can use ChatGPT. So far, ChatGPT has amazed users with its ability to pen articles and essays, share recipes, interpret historical events, and write song lyrics. While some of these tactics may not be useful for your marketing strategy, let's consider other ways you could use ChatGPT.    For instance, if you're unsure how to respond to a negative online review about one of your local business's customer service, you can leverage ChatGPT for guidance. Are you a restaurant brand and having writer's block about what to make your next blog topic? Ask ChatGPT for some ideas.    Similarly, if you're having trouble thinking of a way to write a social media post about Women's History Month, you could ask ChatGPT for some inspiration. Here’s an example below:

While ChatGPT is a great way to assist you in your marketing efforts, it's important to remember that it is still artificial intelligence, and a human touch is still required. The image below highlights some of ChatGPT's capabilities, along with its limitations

We recommend doing your own online research and review what ChatGPT has written before using any of its answers or text.
